![]() When told front desk that out of toilet paper, returned later to find rolls of toilet paper just left on front porch (even the Courtyard will do daily mail service now, and probably do more than leave toilet paper outside door!). Only on second day, after asking, does one learn that housekeeping only comes to clean at cottage once a week (though you can pay more to have maid service more often). As time goes on, however, one gets the sense the hotel is not run as it may have been in past. This visit was disappointing to say the very least.… Housekeeping provided minimal towels and no hand cloths. They charge $60 for a rollaway without a comforter. The TV didn’t work, and there was no extra bedding in the room. Be careful booking the montage 20 rate- they will try hard not to honor it. I explained that this was not mentioned at check in (that the credit was only good during the evenings of each night as we had dinner the evening of first night and had we known would have billed it to the room instead of paying with a card. After arguing with me she relented and issued the remaining $70 credit but it required an argument. We booked the montage 20 rate for two nights and the front desk clerk Kass argued about issuing the $200 worth of credits since we had charges on our room on the morning after our arrival rather than evening of our arrival that exceeded the $100. However this visit the staff at the hotel were rude and argumentative. Our first visit in 2021 was great- the staff was accommodating and hospitable. I think if the issues mentioned were addressed, and the cuisine on site was expanded, this could truly be a gem.… None of my complaints are major but at $700 a night and a Forbes 5 star rating, I’d expect better. Lastly, the Veuve pool by River House was completely unmanned. They were out of fried green tomatoes (their speciality) and my coffee had a hair in it. The wait to get our food was much longer. The wait to get a table at Octagon on Sunday was 15+ minutes and a long line formed throughout the lobby. Many did not have a clue on proper etiquette and customer service. Additionally, a good portion of the staff needed to be trained, retrained, and/or mentored. When you attempt to call the hotel, the phone is not answered promptly or sometimes at all. I could be wrong but it truly seemed like the hotel was struggling to find staff. Restaurants are pretty, but cuisine is the same or very similar at each one (southern). We visited the spa and were told it was undergoing a 2-day full renovation, which was very exciting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very nice! The hotel is a bit dated but the decor helps make up for it, along with the STUNNING grounds. I absolutely love coming to this Montage location. If you are on the fence about trying this property, DO IT - you will not be disappointed.… MPB is so close to Savannah Airport, and a super easy drive up to Charleston for a day or two on either end of your trip. I always think it's weird when people comment on employees at a hotel because it seems pretentious, but I would be remiss not to mention Richard (valet), Zulfira (front desk), and Firoze (rooms) who are all three so devoted and passionate about the property, it's contagious! They do not miss an opportunity to make guests feel welcome and spoiled. All dining options are outstanding, and housekeeping is impeccable (and I am very hard to please on that one.) The pool area is beautiful and has a great vibe, and our favorite on-property is electric bikes for miles and miles of safe and beautiful trails in and out of the residential area and golf course. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have every possible thoughtful detail and convenience, and we especially love the larger bathroom size. We loved it so much we came back two summers in a row! First, I should say that we live in coastal southern California, so we are lucky to have natural beauty on a daily basis, but there is something about the tranquility in this locale that draws us in.
